My Journey with the Woodfield Project
It’s been a whole year since I first got the call telling me I'd got the job as admin and digital assistant at the Woodfield Pavilion and it has been nothing short of amazing.
I wanted to take a moment to share some of my thoughts, and shout out the incredible people I’ve met along the way.
When I first stepped into the Woodfield Pavilion, I already felt at home. Having met Janet ('Da Management') a couple of times before, and having also had an arty connection with some of the resident creatives, it just felt right. Little did I know though, that I was about to embark on a journey filled with new friends, new experiences and lots of laughs.
One of the best parts of this job has been bulding connections with the amazing people who visit and make use of the Pavilion. I’ve had the chance to work on some super fun, creative and heart warming projects. From rehauling our community newsletter and reorganising the website, to helping curate and hang art exhibitions and see a refugee group share their experiences, stories and recipies.
Every project has been a new adventure and it’s been a joy seeing how one building can bring so many different people together.
Of course, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. There have been challenges - like figuring out the best way to encourage our doggy visitors to sit for their free treats. Or choosing the most appropriate playlist for the mood on any given Thursday. But each obstacle has been a learning opportunity. I’ve picked up new skills, and I’m so grateful for the support of Janet who has been there every step of the way.
My one year anniversary coincided with Janet's 6-year one, and it was a special event indeed. Attended by around 20 creatives and Trustees who are regularly faces in the space, we had a good old knees-up at a local bar. It was so heart-warming to feel the genuine connection between everyone and to see the happiness light up the room.
As I reflect on this past year, I can’t help but feel excited for what’s next. My year's contract has already been extended until 2026 and I'm raring to go.
The Woodfield Project is constantly evolving, and I’m thrilled to be a part of its journey. We have some exciting plans in the pipeline, including more workshops, exhibitions, community collaborations, and, of course, more friends to be made!
So, here’s to another year of creativity, connection, and community at the Woodfield Project!
If you’re ever in the area, stop by and say hi. I’d love to chat about all the amazing things happening here.
